Sunny and cool at the wharf this morning, but the day is shaping up to be a warm one. The net tow was mostly dinoflagellates and phytoplankton biomass increased this week. The phytoplankton assemblage is similar to last week with Prorocentrum being the most abundant. Pseudo-nitzschia were delicatissima size and Alexandrium counts increased an order of magnitude this week.

There was an Akashiwo this morning! The wharf this morning was chilly (I could see my breath) with little to no breeze. My sampling site was sunny with 0% cloud coverage. In the distance, there was haze covering the mountains. The surface of the water had small bubbles. There were large rolling waves moving towards the sampling site. The water this week was a slightly darker green than last week with the same visibility of 1.5m. Chlorophyll significantly increased from last week. Dinoflagellates dominated the water column. Akashiwo was abundant in the water. Prorocentrum was common. Dinophysis and Lingulodinium were present. The HAB species that were observed in the water this morning included Pseudo-nitzschia, Alexandrium, Dinophysis and Akashiwo sanguinea.
