This morning was sunny with no clouds. The water was relatively calm with no wind. There were no boats docked near my sampling site. There was a slight haze covering the mountains in the distance. The water this week was slightly bluer than last week with a visibility of 5.5m. Chlorophyll significantly decreased compared to last week. Akashiwo sanguinea and Prorocentrum were common and present in the water column respectively. The HAB species that were present in the water this morning included Alexandrium, Dinophysis, Cochlodinium, and Akashiwo sanguinea.

This morning the sky was clear and sunny. However, in the distance there was a slight blanket of haze lining the horizon. The surface of the waters had large rolling waves moving in the direction of the dock. The water this week was slightly a lighter green than last week with a visibility of 6.0m. Chlorophyll significantly increased (2x) compared to last week. Chaetoceros species dominated the water column. The HAB species that were present in the water this morning included P. nitzschia, Alexandrium, Dinophysis, Cochlodinium, and Akashiwo sanguinea.

This morning had clear blue skies. There was a slight haze/fog covering the base of the mountains in the distance. The dock had a slight breeze but the sun kept me warm. The surface of the water had large rolling waves. This time there were no boats docked near my sampling site. However, there were more seagulls than usual. The water this week was slightly greener than last week with a visibility of 5.5m. Chlorophyll significantly decreased from last week. The dominant phytoplankton group in the water column was dinoflagellates. Both Akashiwo sanguinea and Prorocentrum were common in the water. The HAB species that were present in the water this morning included P. nitzschia, Alexandrium, Dinophysis, Cochlodinium, and Akashiwo sanguinea.

Overcast and raining at the wharf this morning.  Lots of kelp wrack and debris in the sampling area along with a bait ball.  Net tow had a lot of detritus/debris and phytoplankton biomass increased this week.  Dinoflagellates remain the most abundant led by Prorocentrum again this week.  Alexandrium counts held steady (from 2wks ago, no counts last week).

This morning the wharf had relatively clear skies and the sun kept me warm from the slight breeze. There was no fog or mist. On the dock there were puddles of water likely from yesterday’s rainfall. While sampling, there was a medium/large platform boat loading in front of me. The surface of the water had large rolling waves. In addition, there was some detritus (leaves) on the surface of the water. The water this week was a slightly darker green than last week with a visibility of 6.0m. Chlorophyll significantly increased from last week. Both ceratium spp. and P. nitzschia were present in the water column. The HAB species that were observed included P. nitzschia, Alexandrium, Dinophysis, Cochlodinium, and Akashiwo sanguinea.

It was a cold morning on the dock. The surface of the water had many small ripples and were moving towards the dock. There were no boats docked/ attached to any of the buoys in front of me. While performing net tows, the water collected inside the net looked darker than normal. The water this week was a slightly lighter green than last week with a visibility of 3.0m. Chlorophyll significantly decreased from last week. Both chaetoceros and ceratium were present. The HAB species that were present in the water this morning included P. nitzschia, Alexandrium, Dinophysis, Cochlodinium, and Akashiwo sanguinea.

This morning the dock was very chilly. The sky was pink and reflected against the few clouds that were in the sky. The dock had no fog and there was clear visibility. Small bubbles formed on the surface of the water while sampling. There were a lot of waves on the surface of the water from the wind. The color of the water this week was the same color as last week but visibility decreased to 4m. Chlorophyll slightly increased from last week. Prorocentrum and Akashiwo sanguinea were common and present respectively. The HAB species that appeared in the water this morning included P. nitzschia, Alexandrium, Dinophysis, Cochlodinium, and Akashiwo sanguinea.

This morning the sunrise was beautiful. The sky was painted with yellow, pink, and orange. There were clear skies directly above me and there was a slight blanket of haze/fog lining the horizon. Beneath my sampling site there was a sea lion jumping and 4 sea otters swimming on their backs. There were large slow rolling waves on the surface of the water moving in the direction towards the dock. The water this week was a slightly darker green than last week with a visibility of 4.5m. Chlorophyll significantly decreased from last week. Both Chaetoceros and P. nitzschia were present in the water. The HAB species that were present in the water this morning included P. nitzschia, Alexandrium, Dinophysis, Cochlodinium, and Akashiwo sanguinea.

Cool with a marine layer at the wharf this am, bait ball still hanging out in the sampling area.  Net tow was mostly detritus/debris this week with a decrease in phytoplankton biomass and diversity.  Phytoplankton assemblage was mostly dinoflagellates and Margalefidinium (mostly doublets) were the most abundant.  Alexandrium counts decreased again.

* IMPRESSIONS *
On the wharf this morning the sky was filled with clouds and the visibility was hazy. However, I was able to identify the horizon. There was a slight breeze on the dock and one fisherman was sampling beside me. The surface water had relatively calm waves. The water this week was slightly greener and lighter than last week with a visibility of 5.5m. Chlorophyll increased from last week with P. nitzschia being the most abundant species. Other HAB species that were present in the water this morning included Alexandrium, Dinophysis, Cochlodinium, and Akashiwo sanguinea.

* Impressions *
This morning was misty and foggy. There were a lot of commercial and local fishermen on the dock. The water level was higher than usual (less barnacles were seen under the dock). There was wave movement and a slight inconsistent breeze. The water visibility increased from last week; however, the water color remained the same. The chlorophyll significantly decreased from last week with Chaetoceros being the most common in the phytoplankton assemblage. The following HAB species were observed: Pseudo-nitzschia, Alexandrium spp, Akashiwo, and Cochlodinium.

Clear and cool this morning with a marine layer hanging out a little ways offshore.  Water temp jumped ~1C this week, but phytoplankton biomass remained about the same, but diversity decreased.  Net tow was mostly dinoflagellates with very few diatoms and Margalefidinium was the most abundant.  Alexandrium counts decreased by about half this week.

* Impressions *
This morning the wharf was foggy and there was a strong breeze. The sky was entirely covered with clouds. There were many ripples on the surface of the water. One sealion was sitting on a piece of wood attached to the dock below me. The water was a darker green compared to two weeks ago with a visibility at 3.0m. The chlorophyll slightly increased from last week with Akashiwo and Ceratium being the most common in the phytoplankton assemblage. The following HAB species were observed: Pseudo-nitzschia, Alexandrium spp, Dinophysis, Akashiwo, and Cochlodinium.
