* Quick HAB Observations *
– Pseudo-nitzschia: Rare
– Alexandrium: None
– Dinophysis: Rare
– Margalefidinium: Rare
* Impressions *
Partly cloudy and warm-ish at the wharf this morning. Water color definitely had more ‘brown’ in it and phytoplankton biomass definitely increased this week. Net tow remains mostly dinoflagellates and Prorocentrum remains the most abundant. No P. australis or P. multiseries were detected, but delicatissima-size cells were observed. No Alexandrium were seen in the sample this week.

The weather at the wharf this morning was warm and mostly cloudy with no breeze, and the sun shone through a few times during the sampling period. The water surface was calm, and it was dark green in color with a visibility of about 5 m. Diatoms dominated the phytoplankton community today. Pseudo-nitzschia delicatissima, Pseudo-nitzschia seriata, and Chaetoceros were common (10 – 49%). Skeletonema, Prorocentrum, Protoperidinium, Dinophysis, and Ceratium were present (1 – 9%). The HAB species observed today included Pseudo-nitzschia, Alexandrium, and Dinophysis.
