* Quick HAB Observations *
– Pseudo-nitzschia: Common
– Alexandrium: Rare
– Dinophysis: Common
– Margalefidinium: Rare
* Impressions *
Another cool and overcast morning at the wharf. Phytoplankton biomass was similar to last week and the assemblage remains a mix of diatoms and dinoflagellates. Dinophysis and Pseudo-nitzschia were the most abundant. Both size classes of Pseudo-nitzschia were observed this week. No P. multiseries were detected, but there were P. australis and Alexandrium counts increased again this week.

This morning, conditions were cloudy and misting. The water surface was calm with a slight breeze. The water appeared more green than last week, with a visibility of 3.5 m. Diatoms dominated the water column. Phytoplankton biomass increased from last week. Pseudo-nitzschia and Chaetoceros were common (10 – 49%). Prorocentrum, Guinardia, Ditylum, Eucampia, Dinophysis, Akashiwo sanguinea, and Protoperidinium were present (1 – 9%). The HAB species that were observed in the water this morning included Pseudo-nitzschia, Alexandrium, Dinophysis, Cochlodinium, and Akashiwo sanguinea.
