* Quick HAB Observations *
– Pseudo-nitzschia: Present
– Alexandrium: Rare
– Dinophysis: Common
– Margalefidinium: None
* Impressions *
Overcast and cool at the wharf this morning. Phytoplankton biomass and diversity decreased his week. Net tow remains mostly dinoflagellates, but Protoperidinium and Dinophysis were the most abundant. Pseudo-nitzsschia were seriata and delicatissima size and no P. australis or P. multiseries were detected this week. Alexandrium were observed in the net tow, but were not detected in the probed counts.

The wharf this morning was drizzling and cloudy. The surface water had a thin layer of oil and was relatively calm. At the end of sampling the sun started to come through the clouds. The water this week was more blue/green than last week with a visibility greater than 5.0m. Visually chlorophyll decreased from last week. Dinoflagellates dominated the water column. Coscinodiscus, Protoperidinium, and Akashiwo were common (10 – 49%). Guinardia, Prorocentrum, Dinophysis, and Tintinnids were present (1 – 9%). The HAB species that were observed in the water this morning included Pseudo-nitzschia, Alexandrium, Dinophysis, Cochlodinium, and Akashiwo sanguinea.
