Another lovely and sunny morning at the wharf. Net tow remains mostly diatoms with a decrease in dinoflagellate abundance. Phytoplankton biomass increased this week and the phytoplankton assemblage shifted slightly with Skeletonema and Pseudo-nitzschia (seriata size) being the most abundant. P. australis concentrations increased an order of magnitude and no P. multiseries were detected. Alexandrium concentration decreased from last week.

The wharf was sunny with clear skies. There were lots of birds on the surface of the water. There was an Akashwio bloom! The biomass clogged my phytoplankton net this morning. The water this week was significantly more red/brown than last week with a visibility of 2.0m. Visually chlorophyll increased from last week. Dinoflagellates dominated the water column. Akashiwo was abundant (>=50%). Thalassiosira, Pseudo-nitzschia, Dinophysis, Prorocentrum, and Ceratium were present (1-10%). The HAB species that were observed in the water this morning included Pseudo-nitzschia, Dinophysis and Akashiwo sanguinea.
