* Quick HAB Observations *
– Pseudo-nitzschia: Rare
– Alexandrium: None
– Dinophysis: None
– Margalefidinium: None
* Impressions *
After a fair amount of wind and rain at the end of last week, it was mostly sunny and cool at the wharf this morning. The net tow was mostly detritus/debris. Phytoplankton biomass decreased this week while diatom diversity increased. The phytoplankton assemblage shifted slightly and was co-dominated by Thalassiosira and Chaetoceros. A chain of seriata-size Pseudo-nitzschia was observed in the net tow, but none were detected in the probed counts.

The wharf this morning was partly cloudy. There was a slight breeze. No boats were docked nearby. The surface waters were calm. The water this week was greener than last week with a visibility of 4.5m. Chlorophyll visually increased from last week. Diatoms dominated the water column. Note: RAI this morning was quick due to the lithium battery fire at the power plant. Thalassiosira was abundant in the water. Detonula was common. The HAB species that were observed in the water this morning was Pseudo-nitzschia.
