* Quick HAB Observations *
– Pseudo-nitzschia: Common
– Alexandrium: Present
– Dinophysis: Present
– Margalefidinium: None
* Impressions *
The wharf was still stuck in the marine layer this morning. Phytoplankton biomass decreased again this week and the most noticeable change was the decrease in the unknown flagellate. The larger cells remained an even mix of diatoms and dinoflagellates with Pseudo-nitzschia and Prorocentrum being the most abundant. Pseudo-nitzschia were mostly delicatissima-size with a handful of the seriata-size chains. No P. australis or P. multiseries were detected in the probed counts. Alexandrium increased again this week with another dramatic jump in the cell counts.

The wharf this morning was cloudy with a slight breeze. The surface of the water had small ripples. Note: the phytoplankton samples were collected with a 50 uM mesh net this week. The water this week was a darker green than last week with a visibility of 5.0m. Diatoms dominated the water column. Pseudo-nitzschia delicatissima was abundant. Navicula, Thalassiosira, and Protoperidinium were present. The HAB species that were observed in the water this morning included Pseudo-nitzschia, Alexandrium, Dinophysis, Cochlodinium, and Akashiwo sanguinea.
