– Pseudo-nitzschia: Present
– Alexandrium: Rare
– Dinophysis: Present
– Margalefidinium: None
* Impressions *
Cool at the wharf this morning with the marine layer starting to burn off up on campus. Dramatic increase in phytoplankton biomass this week and dinoflagellates made up a majority of the net tow. An unknown flagellate was the most abundant this week and Akashiwo was the most abundant ‘large’ phytoplankter. Pseudo-nitzschia were all delicatissima size and Alexandrium counts increased an order of magnitude.

The wharf this morning was cloudy, breezy, and misting. The water smelled funky. The surface of the water was relatively calm. The water this week was a slightly darker green than last week with a visibility of 1.75m. Chlorophyll increased from last week. Diatoms dominated the water column. There was a bloom of Pseudo-nitzschia delicatissima this morning. Pseudo-nitzschia delicatissima was abundant. Akashiwo and Oligotrich were common. Cylindrotheca, Pyrophacus, Dinophysis, Prorocentrum, and Oxyphysis were present. The HAB species that were observed in the water this morning included Pseudo-nitzschia, Alexandrium, Dinophysis, Cochlodinium, and Akashiwo sanguinea.
