* Quick HAB Observations *
– Pseudo-nitzschia: Common
– Alexandrium: Common
– Dinophysis: Present
– Margalefidinium: Rare
* Impressions *
Another cool morning at the wharf, with the marine layer starting to burn off inland. Water was calm and very clear (visibility >10ft). The phytoplankton assemblage shifted a bit and was mostly dinoflagellates this week. Phytoplankton biomass decreased. Alexandrium was the most abundant, but the cell concentrations decreased by half from last week. 2-3 cell chains of Pseudo-nitzschia were seen, both seriata and delicatissima size, but no P. australis or P. multiseries were detected in the probed counts.

The wharf this morning was slightly breezy. The sky was partly cloudy with the sun trying to break through the clouds. The surface of the water had ripples and small waves. The water this week was the same color as last week with a visibility of 6.5m. Chlorophyll decreased from last week. Diatoms dominated the water column. Chaetoceros was abundant in the water. Pseudo-nitzschia, Guinardia, and Eucampia were common. The HAB species that were observed in the water this morning included Pseudo-nitzschia, Cochlodinium, Dinophysis and Akashiwo sanguinea.
