* Quick HAB Observations *
– Pseudo-nitzschia: Present
– Alexandrium: Present
– Dinophysis: Present
– Margalefidinium: Rare
* Impressions *
Cool and overcast at the wharf this morning. Net tow remains an even mix of diatoms and dinoflagellates with phytoplankton biomass increasing a bit this week. Diatom diversity increased this week as well, but Chaetoceros was the most abundant genus. Pseudo-nitzschia were seriata size, chains of 3-4 and P. australis were detected in the probed counts. Alexandrium cells were very happy and the cell concentration increased an order of magnitude.

The wharf this morning was very windy and it was misting. The surface of the water was very calm with small ripples on the surface. The sky was covered with a sheet of clouds. The water this week was slightly bluer than last week with a visibility of 4.0m. Chlorophyll increased from last week. Diatoms dominated the water column. Pseudo-nitzschia and Chaetoceros were common in the water. Guinardia and Dinophysis were present. The HAB species that were observed in the water this morning included Pseudo-nitzschia, Alexandrium, Dinophysis and Akashiwo sanguinea.
