* Quick HAB Observations *
– Pseudo-nitzschia: None
– Alexandrium: Present
– Dinophysis: Rare
– Margalefidinium: Common
* Impressions *
Heavy marine layer this am. Bait ball was in the sampling area and lots of birds feeding. Net tow was mostly dinoflagellates and phytoplankton biomass was about the same. Ceratium and Margalefidinium were the most abundant. The Alexandrium counts increased significantly this week, lots of 4-cell chains zooming around.

It was overcast with a slight drizzle at the wharf this morning. The water was still dark but slightly greener compared to last week. Visibility remained at 3 m. Lots of seaweed present at site and clogged the net. Chlorophyll increased compared to last week, with a significant increase in dinoflagellate abundance and diversity, however, diatoms remained dominant in the sample. Pseudo-nitzschia, Alexandrium, Dinophysis, Cochlodinium, and Akashiwo all appeared in the sample.
