* Quick HAB Observations *
– Pseudo-nitzschia: Common
– Alexandrium: Rare
– Dinophysis: Present
– Margalefidinium: None
* Impressions *
Beautiful, sunny morning at the wharf. Phytoplankton biomass decreased slightly and dinoflagellate abundance increased making the net tow a pretty even mix of diatoms and dinoflagellates. Pseudo-nitzschia and Ceratium were the most abundant this week. P. australis counts increased 2 orders of magnitude from last week and were a majority of the Pn assemblage. Alexandrium concentrations decreased.

The wharf this morning was cloudy and misting. There was a slight breeze. The surface of the water was relatively calm. Pseudo-nitzschia abundance increased from last week. The water this week was the same color as last week with a visibility of 4.0m. Visually, chlorophyll decreased from last week. Diatoms dominated the water column. Pseudo-nitzschia seriata was abundant (>=50%). Eucampia, Thalassionema, Guinardia, Protoperidinium, and Ceratium were present (1-9%). The HAB species that were observed in the water this morning included Pseudo-nitzschia, Alexandrium, Dinophysis and Akashiwo sanguinea.
